Ninoy special stamps out

MANILA, Philippines – Former President Corazon Aquino on Thursday led the launching of the special commemorative stamps of her late husband and Philippine national hero, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr. Connie Sison in her report aired on GMA Network’s primetime news 24 Oras said the event was part of Ninoy’s 76th birth anniversary celebration at the De La Salle University. “These stamps will go a long way in keeping the memory of Ninoy alive in the hearts and minds of our people," Mrs Aquino said in her speech. The report said that the special stamps, which can be bought at the Manila Central Post Office (MCPO) for P26 and P7 apiece, had the two famous pictures of the late senator. MCPO said that through the commemorative stamps, people would remember Ninoy’s contribution to the Philippines, particularly on the restoration of the country’s democracy. After the unveiling ceremonies, organizers held an open forum, symposium and video presentation for the youth. Meanwhile, Ninoy’s son, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, attended a forum in Malabon. At the gathering, he expressed his disgust over the decision of the House justice committee to trash the latest impeachment bid against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. According the report, the younger Aquino felt that his father’s sacrifices were disregarded because of the defeat of the opposition in the House. “Wala na nga yatang check and balance on the current administration. And in that sense my relevance pa rin yung ginawa sa kasaysayan ng aking ama at iba pang mga tao kung papaano nilabanan yung sitwasyon na tila nagpi-fail yung ating mga institusyon," he said. - Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
