2 soldiers hurt in clash with NPA rebels in Tarlac

MANILA, Philippines - Two members of the elite Light Reaction Company of the Philippine Army were wounded following a clash with suspected New People's Army rebels in the northern Philippine province of Tarlac early Friday morning.
A text message from Brig. Gen. Arturo Ortiz, commander of the Army Special Operations Command (Socom), said the encounter erupted at 8:10 a.m. between elements of the 1st LRC and 40 insurgents at Sitio Gamayan, Anupol village in Bamban town.
The firefight lasted for 15 minutes, Ortiz said. He identified those wounded as Corporal Domingo and Sergeant Caballero.
Both were airlifted to the Nolcom (Northern Command) hospital where they are undergoing treatment, Ortiz said.
There were no immediate information on rebel casualties, although troops recovered three M16 rifles and two back packs.
As of posting time, troops were still conducting pursuit operations against the rebels. - GMANews.TV
