DSWD streamlines crisis intervention unit ops

MANILA, Philippines - In a bid to prevent duplication of services, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has placed its Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) under its Metro Manila Unit.
DSWD secretary Esperanza Cabral said the NCR unit's takeover of operations at the 24-hour CIU in Quezon City allows them to stretch limited resources.
"We have to avoid duplication of services to maximize the resources of the DSWD," Cabral said in an article on the DSWD website.
The CIU serves as a 24-hour action center for individuals and families needing medical, social and psychological services. It is based at the DSWD central office at the Batasan complex.
Under the new setup, "clients" may still proceed to the DSWD CIU to request for social services.
But once a client has availed of services there, he or she can no longer go to the CIU-NCR office at Legarda in Manila to request either similar or different social service.
Services provided by the CIU include financial assistance, burial assistance, provision of immediate psychosocial intervention and referral services to link the clients with the appropriate service units in the Department, other government agencies, NGOs and other organizations.
It also provides temporary accommodation or shelter for a limited period of time. - GMANews.TV
