ANKARA, Turkey - The military says Turkish warplanes have struck Kurdish rebel targets inside northern Iraq.
It says the jets bombed the Zap region, close to the Turkish border, Monday. A military statement said all planes returned to their bases safely and described the operation as "effective." There was no information on casualties.
It is the latest of a series of Turkish strikes against rebel hideouts in northern Iraq, where the guerrillas have staged hit-and-run attacks on Turkish targets for decades.
The Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, has been fighting for self-rule in Turkey's southeast since 1984.
