World leaders praise Arroyo in Hong Kong - Palace

MANILA, Philippines - While congressmen were voting on whether or not to junk the latest impeachment complaints against her, at least two world leaders were all praises for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Hong Kong. From the way she looks to how she is running the Philippines amid the global financial crisis, President Arroyo was praised for “outshining" other attendees of the Clinton Global Initiative. “You outshined us all," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told President Arroyo, as related through text message by Press Secretary Jesus Dureza, who was with her in Hong Kong. Dureza said President Arroyo stressed the important role of the business and private sector in keeping the country’s economy afloat during the global financial turmoil during her speech. “(The) government can’t do it alone," Dureza quoted the President as saying. Former US president Bill Clinton, meanwhile, commented on President Arroyo’s looks when he introduced her to the stage. “I’m proud to introduce to you someone who was my classmate in the university… looking 20 years younger… Oh, make that 30 years," Dureza quoted Clinton as saying. President Arroyo and Clinton were classmates at Georgetown University in Washington DC. President Arroyo started her talk by congratulating Clinton for the impending appointment of his wife, New York Senator Hillary Clinton, as US secretary of state. She also told the former US president that she is expecting a more enhanced relation between the US and the Philippines. - GMANews.TV
