Ploning bid for Oscars gets P1M aid from govt

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has donated P1 million to the Film Development Council of the Philippines in support to the bid of the movie "Ploning" for the "Best Foreign Language Film" category in the 81st Academy Awards (Oscars) in the United States. Presidential Management Staff (PMS) director general Cerge Remonde personally handed check to FDCP chairman Rolando Atienza and “Ploning” lead actress Judy Ann Santos during a simple ceremony at the New Executive Building Room in Malacañang late Thursday afternoon. The amount is sourced from the Presidential Social Fund, Remonde said, and would be used for the publicity expenses of the film abroad. Santos, who is also the executive producer of the movie, said “Ploning” needs at least P5 million for the publicity expenses and was thankful to the government for giving the biggest contribution. "Pinakamalaki ang suporta (ng gobyerno). Nakakatuwa siya, overwhelming. Hindi maliit na bagay na humingi ka at tulungan ka ng gobyerno (The government gave the biggest contribution. I’m happy and overwhelmed for it)," she said. Santos said “Ploning” has an edge to get into the Top 9 since it has been invited to the Palm Springs Festival in January, which is considered as a pre-Oscars party. “Ploning” had been invited to three international film festivals already in Hong Kong, India and Singapore. Ploning, an independent film by Panoramanila about selfless love, had been Graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board. It is directed by Dante Nico Garcia. - GMANews.TV
