Farmer killed in Teves estate in Negros Oriental


MANILA, Philippines - A member of militant peasant group Task Force Mapalad was shot dead in the estate of former Rep. Herminio Teves in Negros Oriental province Wednesday night. Online news site Visayan Daily Star reported that the victim, Arnaldo Hoyohoy, 40, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the cheek. Task Force Mapalad's Heidi Fernandez said Hoyohoy died before doctors at the Dumaguete Hospital in Dumaguete City could attend to his injuries. Fernandez said the incident occurred at Caranoche village in Sta. Catalina town in Negros Oriental at 6:30 p.m., when an unidentified gunman shot Hoyohoy. After Hoyohoy was shot, his father Romualdo and brother Alexander rushed to his aid. Initial investigation showed the assailant's bullet hit Hoyohoy's right cheek and exited through his neck. - GMANews.TV
