PCG: Sulpicio yet to name firm for last stage of ‘Princess’ salvage ops

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard on Thursday lamented delays in the start of the last stage of salvage work on the capsized MV Princess of the Stars, as the prospects of the completion within this year of the salvage work grew dimmer. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported that Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said Sulpicio Lines Inc. - owner of the ill-fated vessel - has not named a salvage firm for the last stage of work. The third stage of the salvage operations involves the removal of the ship wreck from the Romblon area. The MV Princess of the Stars capsized at the height of Typhoon Frank last June 21. Earlier, kin of fatalities of the tragedy scored Sulpicio for its failure to retrieve remains of all fatalities still believed trapped inside the wreck. Tamayo ordered Sulpicio to make sure the firm tapped for the last stage of salvage operations will locate and retrieve the remains of victims. - GMANews.TV
