Heart attack might have caused Didith Reyes's death - PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Heart attack, not vehicular accident, might have caused the death of 70s Jukebox Queen Didith Reyes, a medico legal officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday. A radio report quoted Dr. Roy Camarillo of the PNP laboratory in the Calabarzon Region as saying that Reyes’ autopsy showed that she has an enlarged heart and blocked heart arteries - probable symptoms of heart problems. Camarillo added that the lifestyle of the former diva could have worsened her heart problem. Reyes, 60, passed away in a shanty somewhere in Biñan, Laguna. She was found dead early Wednesday, three days after she claimed she was sideswiped by a vehicle. Region 4-A police head Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla said Reyes at the time had bruises in the body, and claimed she had been sideswiped. But at the time, the singer claimed that the injuries were not serious. Her remains now lie at Mt. Carmel Chapel in Quezon City, with the date of interment yet to be set. Camarillo was quoted by the report as saying he does not believe the car accident, as previously reported by the police, was the reason behind Reyes’ demise. He emphasized that the contusions found in several areas of her body had nothing to do with her death. Camarillo noted that somebody might have battered or abused Reyes. Based on the condition of her bruises, the abuse could have occurred earlier, the report quoted him as saying. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
