MANILA, Philippines - An eleven-year-old girl died while two others were wounded when the tricycle carrying them was rammed by a Toyota Revo in Ilocos Sur last Friday.
Police Officer 1 Avenaizer Rubiaco, in a phone interview with GMANews.TV, said the incident took place at about 10 p.m. in the village of Tameg in Vigan town.
Rubiaco, a duty investigator of Vigan police, identified the fatality as April Tocazon. April was with her relatives Jane Tocazon, 25, and Charity Tocazon, 18, when the incident took place. They were rushed to Gabriella Silang General Hospital but April was declared dead on arrival.
Rubiaco said the driver of the Revo, John Pipo, 57, made a left turn going to Baluarte Subdivision when it collided into the tricycle driven by Lucrecio Ragunhan, 29.
A report over radio dzBB, meanwhile, said that both drivers were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. It added that Pipo, who was coming from the opposite direction, was already occupying the lane of Ragunhan.
Rubiaco could not confirm nor deny the information in the report.
He however said that Pipo, a resident of Tamag, Vigan, was jailed after the incident but was released after posting for bail.
Rubiaco also said that complaints against Pipo were already being readied and will be forwarded to the proper court. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
