Roach: The biggest fight for Pacquiao is Floyd Jr

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao's trainer is now more interested in a Pretty Boy foe than a Hitman. Freddie Roach admitted in an interview posted online Monday that Pacquiao's "biggest challenge" is Floyd Mayweather Jr. "Floyd's making nose about coming out of retirement. I think that's a bigger fight," Roach told Gabriel Montoya of Doghouseboxing.com on Monday. "That's pound for pound kings going at each other ... And we want the biggest challenge out there. And that's Floyd." Roach had previously said that Ricky Hatton was Team Pacquiao's top priority. But not after rumors floated that Mayweather, who retired undefeated earlier this year, was interested to return to the ring. "(The Mayweathers) have made a little noise. Floyd said he's going to come back and have both Roger and his father train him. But how true that is I don't know," Roach added. Roach also revealed that he wants Pacquiao to fight again within the next three months. Pacquiao, who battled through three tough bouts in a span of nine months, said he wanted to take a breather for at least six months. "I want (Manny) to take the whole month of December off. We're going to start back in training in January. So we want to fight by the end of March," Roach said. A Pacquiao-Mayweather bout is said to ignite interest in the boxing community. Mayweather, nicknamed Pretty Boy, retired in June as the sport's best pound-for-pound fighter, a distinction Pacquiao assumed afterward. Mayweather finished his career undefeated in 39 matches. His last bout was against Hatton in December 2007. In May 2007, Mayweather won a split decision over Oscar de la Hoya. Pacquiao, who had an easier time dealing with de la Hoya, is also being considered to fight the power-punching Hatton. According to Roach, Hatton can wait. "Ricky's definitely an option but you know, he's definitely second to Floyd." - GMANews.TV
