Purefoods' Yap, Banal cool down after throwing incident

MANILA, Philippines - Former MVP James Yap and Purefoods defensive coach Koy Banal have already patched up things following a throwing incident caught on national television in a game Sunday, a team official said. Yap threw an object at Banal's direction after Yap didn't heed Banal's defensive instruction. Purefoods, which made it all the way to the finals last season, lost 94-82 to Air21 in a wild-card game and was one of three teams eliminated from the KFC Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup. Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio confirmed the two have buried the hatchet. "While the incident caught on tape was unfortunate, let me assure you that it was just a misunderstanding that was aggravated by the heat of the action," Gregorio said on Monday. "In the end, logic and respect toward each other prevailed over misplaced temper and anger. It is a relief on my part to see them bury the hatchet before we parted ways," Gregorio added. "Yes, things are ok now. I saw them hug each other and apologies were both accepted." - GMANews.TV
