5 hurt in landmine blast in Masbate City highway


MANILA, Philippines - Four Army personnel and a civilian were wounded in a landmine blast in Asid village in Masbate province in Bicol Monday noon, reports reaching the Philippine National Police said. The report said the soldiers were on their way to Masbate City from their headquarters in Bacolod village in Milagros town when the Isuzu Elf truck they were riding passed a landmine planted on the roadside portion of the national highway in Asid village. The landmine is believed to be planted by members of the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. No firefight ensued after the explosion, which slightly damaged the vehicle. The report said the vehicle was able to speed off toward Masbate City and that the victims were brought to Masbate Doctors Hospital for treatment. All police stations in the area have been alerted for other possible atrocities that might be committed by the communist rebels. - GMANews.TV
