Pacquiao vs Hatton, Mayweather Jr. in boxing’s ’09 wish list

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao versus Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is among the top in boxing’s wish list for 2009. Boxing writers Colin Seymour of the examiner.com and eastsideboxing.com’s Thomas Scherr wrote in their respective columns that Pacquiao fighting Hatton and Mayweather should be interesting matches for the year. Seymour said Mayweather would possibly come out of retirement to fight Pacquiao in 2009 would be the most attractive fight. He believes that a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout would likely to push thru since Mayweather owes $6.2 million in federal income taxes. Seymour added that though he is not sure Pacquiao could beat Mayweather he believes that the Filipino boxing icon can win against Hatton the same way Mayweather did in 2007. Mayweather snapped Hatton’s 43-match winning streak when he won via a 10th round technical knockout decision in their December 8, 2007 match. Hatton, who suffered his lone loss in 46 fights, is eyeing a possible rematch against Mayweather. Scherr, meanwhile, said Hatton would be the likely underdog if he battles Pacquiao this year. “Pacquiao versus Hatton is the biggest event that can be made in boxing. It should be an interesting fight." Another fight in Seymour’s wish list is Nonito Donaire, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight champion, challenging Mexico’s Fernando Montiel. A Donaire-Montiel match is expected on March 14 in Las Vegas. If Donaire wins, a rematch with Vic Darchinyan would come up next. – GMANews.TV
