Auring shifts north, but still threatens E. Samar


MANILA, Philippines - Tropiocal depression Auring shifted northwards but continued to threaten Eastern Samar Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. Pagasa said Auring was estimated at 80 km southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as of 4 p.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. Only Eastern Samar remained under Storm Signal No. 1, Pagasa said in its 4:30 p.m. advisory. It said Auring was moving north at 7 kph and is expected to be 150 kms northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 200 km east-southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar Monday afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon it is expected to be 300 km northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar. By Wednesday afternoon it is expected to be 420 km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. However, Pagasa still warned residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes in areas under Storm Signal No. 1 to take precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
