Cops to use unmanned aerial surveillance cameras for Nazarene feast

MANILA, Philippines - Unmanned aerial surveillance cameras will play a major role in keeping the peace in this year's Feast of the Black Nazarene, Manila police said Tuesday. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported that Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said the cameras will be used to track the movement of the procession. The MPD chief also said the cameras will be used to spot potential troublemakers and criminals in the crowd. Millions of devotees are expected to join this year's feast of the Black Nazarene. Devotees believe the image can grant miracles. Rosales said the cameras will be mounted on hot-air balloons tethered to strategic areas along the route of the procession. He added this will complement the deployment of police personnel who will maintain peace and order in the procession. This year's procession will see the image of the Black Nazarene brought out of Quiapo Church on Thursday for a vigil at the Quirino Grandstand at the Luneta. On Friday the image will be brought back via a grand procession to the Quiapo Church. - GMANews.TV
