Erap-Velarde 2010 tandem? Impossible

(Updated 11:03 pm.) MANILA, Philippines - Former President Joseph Estrada on Tuesday laughed off rumors of a possible teamup with charismatic El Shaddai leader Bro. Mike Velarde for the 2010 presidential election. A report on GMA News’ 24 Oras quoted Estrada as saying that a team-up with Velarde is impossible. He said he has no idea where the news came from and reiterated that he would only run for the presidency if the opposition camp failed to field a common standard bearer in 2010. Estrada however said he is willing to endorse the candidacy of Sen. Loren Legarda if the latter would continue to top the surveys. “Why not? If she would be topping the survey… She has a very good chance of becoming the opposition's nominee for president," the former leader said. Aside from Legarda and Estrada, other considered presidentiables in the opposition camp are Senators Manny Villar, Mar Roxas, Francis Escudero, Panfilo Lacson and Makati mayor Jejomar Binay. - Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
