Pacquiao graces 'The Ring' cover as 08's best


MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao owned Oscar de la Hoya in their Dream Match. As the best of 2008, Pacquiao will be on the cover of the prestigious "The Ring". A magazine owned by De la Hoya. "The Ring" named Pacquiao Fighter of the Year and the magazine more popularly called as "the bible of boxing" put him on its cover in the upcoming yearender issue. "The Ring" used one of Pacquiao's photos during his training for De la Hoya. Underneath his name, a kicker read, "Can he carry the load from the man he conquered?" referring to Pacquiao being elevated as the sport's biggest draw after his eight-round demolition of De la Hoya last month. De la Hoya is the majority owner of "The Ring" after Sports and Entertainment Publications LLC, a Golden Boy Enterprises subisidiary, bought the publication from the Kappa Publishing Group in September 2007. This marks the second time "The Ring" awarded Pacquiao its highest honor. He was also named Fighter of the Year in 2006 after going 3-0. Other boxers who were named Fighter of the Year twice were: Muhammad Ali, Ezzard Charles, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Marvin Hagler, Evander Holyfield, Ingerman Johansson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson, Gene Tunney, Dick Tiger, James Toney, and Mike Tyson. - GMANews.TV
