New markets open up for OFWs in Madagascar - consultant


MANILA, Philippines - Amid the threat of layoffs worldwide, a recruitment industry consultant on Thursday said that new markets have opened up for thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFW), specifically in Madagascar. Recruitment consultant Emmanuel Geslani in a statement on Thursday said that local manpower agency Jerphi Overseas and Trading Corporation has successfully penetrated the country of Madagascar through a marketing mission last December, paving the way for international mining companies to consider hiring Filipino workers for 4,500 job orders.. Madagascar is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeastern coast of Africa. It is a former French colony and the fourth largest island in the world. Some of the jobs available include electrical and instrumentation foreman, database administrator, control room specialist, lead hands, maintenance engineer, metallurgical supervisor, ore preparation foreman and operators, and other positions related to mining operations. Geslani said that the pay for the such positions will be competitive and that those with experience and complete documents can be assured of deployment within six weeks,a contract of almost up to three years, free food and accommodation, plus medical benefits.
