MANILA, Philippines — After passing its "test" last Friday, the Manila Police District (MPD)'s new closed-circuit television (CCTV) system will be formally launched this coming week.
MPD head Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said Saturday the launching will coincide with the MPD's 108th anniversary on January 13.
While the MPD marks its anniversary on January 9, it delayed its celebration to January 13 to secure the recently concluded Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Rosales credited the CCTV system for the low incidence of crimes in the Black Nazarene procession, noting it became a deterrent to would-be snatchers and pickpockets.
He said the CCTV's cameras can zoom in on potential troublemakers.
