UNO adopts plan for Arroyo's last 500 days

MANILA, Philippines - The United Opposition (UNO)is adopting a two-pronged plan in preparation for President Arroyo's last 530-plus days in office. United Opposition spokesman Adel Tamano said they will do everything they can to prevent an extension of Arroyo's term, while keeping her anointed from succeeding her. "We will do everything we can para hindi ma-extend ang 530-plus days niya. Ang narinig natin sa Charter change, possible term extension, talagang tututol kami doon (We will do everything we can so she cannot extend her term after her last 530-plus days in power. This includes thwarting Charter change. We will really oppose such moves)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He also said the opposition will seek to make sure Arroyo does not stay in power after 2010 through the victory of her anointed one. When asked who the anointed one would likely be, he said it could be vice president Manuel "Noli" de Castro Jr. De Castro ran as Arroyo's running mate in 2004. He is being groomed as a possible administration bet in the 2010 presidential election. "Ayaw natin pag-alis niya ang papalit sa kanya tao niya (Even if she steps down in 2010, we will not allow her anointed to take her place)," Tamano said. - GMANews.TV
