MANILA, Philippines – Graduating students from both private and public high schools will soon have knowledge on how to invest in stock market.
In his report in GMA’s “24 Oras” Thursday, John Consulta said modules on capital market and stocks investment will be taught starting in the 2009-2010 school year.
The program is in collaboration of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the report said.
“Let’s go step by step. As you see it, even teachers need to be educated first on the capital market. It’s a module (and) it will be in the possession of teachers,” Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said.
According to Francisco Ed Lim, PSE president and chief executive officer, very few Filipinos are investing in the stock market.
“We have to laymanize and make it (stocks) more attractive to our young minds,” Lim said.
High schools in Metro Manila will serve as the pilot test area of program beginning the school opening in June.
The PSE vowed to look for funding to ensure the continuity of the program. - GMANews.TV
