The unlikely heroism of Mang Meliton

Episode on January 17, 2009
Saturday, 4:30 p.m.

Students of the University of the Philippines would often run to Mang Meliton for help. The lowly janitor was a regular employee of the state university and can thus stand as guarantor to those seeking student loans. Mang Meliton never hesitated in assisting students in need. Little did he realize that not all of them would settle their debt. Upon retirement, Mang Meliton would learn the bitter truth. A significant chunk would be deducted from his retirement pay because of unpaid student loans. Though already unemployed, Mang Meliton still toils everyday to keep his family afloat.

A blog about Mang Meliton by one of the students he helped recently found its way to Wish Ko Lang! Watch how Vicky Morales and her team honors the former janitor’s unlikely heroism. Tune in this Saturday on Wish Ko Lang, 4.30 pm.
