PSC chair Ramirez to stay until replacement named

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez is not leaving his post from the government sports agency until a possible replacement is named. Ramirez, who was bothered by health problems for about a year now, has tendered his resignation on Wednesday. His letter has reportedly been accepted by Malacañang, although no confirmation yet was made whether President Arroyo has accepted his letter. According to PSC executive director Fr. Vicente Uy, Ramirez will stay as long as there’s no confirmation letter yet from Malacañang. The mild-mannered sports executive left Wednesday to attend the National Open Boxing Championship in Bacolod City. He suffered a respiratory ailment last year and that has bothered him ever since forcing him to retire, following his doctors advice. Ramirez himself admitted that his resignation was accepted by Malacañang. He submitted the letter after the country’s poor showing in the Beijing Olympics. No replacement has been announced yet, although there are reports that former Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president and Manila representative Harry Angping looms as one of the candidates. – GMANews.TV
