Magnitude-5.4 quake rocks Central, Eastern Visayas


MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-5.4 quake rocked parts of Central and Eastern Visayas early Friday morning, but no casualty or damage was reported. The United States Geological Service said the quake was recorded at 6:43 a.m., with the epicenter traced 45 km south-southwest of Tacloban City in Leyte. It said the epicenter was also 100 km west of Guiuan, Samar; 115 km northeast of Cebu; or 585 km southeast of Manila. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) research specialist Lito Lanuza said on dzBB radio they are still verifying the intensity of the quake in Ormoc. But he cited initial information the quake was felt at Intensity III in La Paz in Leyte; and Intensity II at Catarman in Northern Samar and in Cebu. "Intensity IV (is) moderately strong, intensity III is weak," he said.- GMANews.TV
