Kaingin triggers fire at PMA forest reservation area

MANILA, Philippines — Fire believed to have originated from a kaingin (slash-and-burn agriculture) razed four hectares of the forest reservation area of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City, a radio report said Tuesday.

Baguio City Fire Officer 1 Joseph Domingo told Bombo Radyo the fire started Sunday night and was put out only on Monday morning.

No one was reported injured in the incident, but Domingo said firefighters had a hard time getting to the site.

He did not give an initial estimate of the damage to property caused by the fire. - GMANews.TV
