USGS: Magnitude-7 quake, tremors recorded off GenSan

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-7 quake and a magnitude-5.5 aftershock were recorded off the Mindanao area before dawn Thursday, but no casualty or damage was initially reported. The United States Geological Service (USGS) said the first quake measuring magnitude 7 was recorded at 1:34 a.m., with the epicenter at 285 km south-southeast of General Santos City. It said the epicenter was also 315 km north-northeast of Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia; 1,335 km south-southeast of Manila; or 2,445 km east-northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia. An aftershock measuring magnitude 5.5 was recorded at 3:01 a.m., with the epicenter traced to 290 km south-southeast of General Santos City. USGS said the epicenter of the aftershock was at 325 km northeast of Manado, Indonesia; 1,335 km south-southeast of Manila; or 2,460 km east-northeast of Jakarta. - GMANews.TV
