The secrets behind award-winning TV shows

Episode on February 14, 2009 Saturday, 11:30 p.m. This Saturday night, Sine Totoo host Howie Severino invites multi-awarded broadcast journalists Maki Pulido and Jiggy Manicad to share their personal experiences producing this year's New York Festivals Bronze World Medal Awardee - "Pinays for Export" by Reporter's Notebook. In "Pinays for Export", Maki and Jiggy trace the path of trafficked women from the Philippines to neighboring Asian countries. The coverage proves unforgettable for the two, resulting in an actual rescue. From the pier in Zamboanga City, Maki takes the route that traffickers allegedly use to sneak women into Sabah, Malaysia to force them into prostitution. Aboard the ship, she meets Oliv, who is traveling to Malaysia with a recruiter's help. Oliv says she was assisted aboard the ship hours ahead of the other passengers, without having to pass immigration officials. Another woman she was traveling with was given a fake passport by their recruiter. Maki travels around Sabah with Michelle, an escaped victim of sex trafficking. Michelle points out the sauna where she was forced to work and the house where she was imprisoned with other trafficked women. Using a hidden camera, Maki's team captures the activities of male clients choosing from among eight Filipinas, with stories similar to Michelle's. Jiggy takes the human trafficking route by air - from the airport in Manila to Hong Kong and Macau. While roaming around a red-light district, Jiggy is approached by 29-year old Weng. She was tricked into going to Hong Kong by her recruiter and later forced into prostitution. Weng asks Jiggy's team for help to escape from white slavery. Her rescue airs in "Pinays for Export", Sine Totoo's special offering this Saturday late night over GMA-7.
