GMA-7 stars take drug test to set example

MANILA, Philippines - Several Kapuso stars on Thursday voluntarily underwent drug test at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters at Camp Crame, Quezon City to show support for the government’s fight against illegal drugs. Those who voluntarily took the drug test were Star Struck winners Mark Herras, Rainier Castillo, Mike Tan, Ryza Cenon, and Iwa Moto. Other Kapuso stars who took the drug test were Prince Stefan, Paulo Avelino, Kevin Santos, Gino dela Peña, Kaye Alipio and Victor Aliwalas. According to Herras, they took the test to show support for the government's anti-drug campaign and set a good example for the Filipino youth. "I took this test voluntarily to fully express my support to the government's efforts in eliminating illegal drugs. Together with my fellow celebrities, we want to be ideal role models for the youth and set a positive example to them," said Herras, the first ultimate survivor of GMA’s reality-based star search. For his part, PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa thanked the celebrities for their support. "I would like to thank the celebrities who took this initiative. These personalities are normally viewed as role models and what they did is a great example to other teenagers to be responsible and stay away from illegal drugs," Verzosa said. As part of the government's anti-drugs campaign the PNP, Department of Health and Department of Education started a random drug test program among high school and college students to prevent the proliferation of drug use among the youth. The program was initially conducted in several high schools in Metro Manila last February 4 and was expected to reach schools in the provinces in the next two weeks. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
