Manero joins MNLF for 'peace'

MANILA, Philippines - Freed convicted priest killer Norberto Manero confirmed Sunday he has joined the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which he believes will bring peace to Mindanao. In a radio interview, Manero said he joined the MNLF as early as January 22, after being convinced about its by-laws and constitution. "All of us want peace. I want to achieve peace. Since the MNLF works for peace I have decided to join the group of chairman Nur Misuari and chief of staff Maj. Gen. Rodrigo Daud Fabillon)," he said in Filipino on Bombo Radyo. Excerpts of the interview were posted on the Bombo Radyo Web site (www.bomboradyo.com). Manero was released in January 2008, after spending more than 20 years in jail for killing Italian priest Tulio Favali. But he said not all his followers in the Ilaga movement joined him in going to the MNLF, adding he will not force them to do so. He also said he received a relatively good welcome at the MNLF, even as he admitted he is aware some of its members are not keen on having him. - GMANews.TV
