Lacson: Bedol ‘enjoys’ administration’s protection

MANILA, Philippines - Controversial and missing Maguindanao poll supervisor Lintang Bedol seems to enjoy the protection of none other than Malacañang, opposition senator Panfilo Lacson said. In an interview with reporters, Lacson likened Bedol - whose province yielded zero votes for opposition senatorial bets in 2007 – to former poll commissioner Virgilio Garcillano in 2004. "Bedol is being protected by you-know-who. If Bedol talks, mayayari silang lahat. Alam naman natin. Parang Garci yan all over again. Garci in 2004, Bedol in 2007 [If Bedol talks, his protectors will be in trouble. We all know that. It's Garci all over again. It was Garcillano in 2004, it was Bedol in 2007]," he said. During a Commission on Appointments hearing Wednesday morning, Commission on Elections commissioner Lucenito Tagle said they received information Bedol is in the United States. The Comelec ordered Bedol arrested in late 2007 for indirect contempt. "Paano siya nakalabas kung hindi pinabayaang lumabas (In the first place, how could Bedol have left the country if he was not allowed to)?" Lacson said. When asked who he thought is protecting Bedol, Lacson said, "obvious ang sagot (the answer is obvious)." Bedol's protectors are afraid he will rat on them. Besides, who else is responsible for poll fraud if not the administration? And who else will have the resources to pay for his expenses in the US? That's the thing with this administration. It keeps obscuring the truth)," Lacson told reporters in Filipino. He said the Comelec should really exert efforts to put in place remedial measures so that the 2010 elections will be credible. - GMANews.TV
