Bread prices to go down next week

MANILA, Philippines - Prices of bread will go down starting next week, an association of bakers said Thursday. Simplicio Umali, president of the Philippine Baking Industry Group Inc., said the reduction is a result of the decrease in the prices of flour. In his report on GMA News’ "24 Oras," JP Soriano said the group would implement a P0.50 cut in the prices of pandesal and P1 in the prices of loaf breads. "Bumaba ang presyo ng flour. Bumaba siya between P870-P900 and ngayon bumababa pa siya nang unti-unti [The prices of flour went down. It decreased between P870-P900 and is still going down]," Umali said in the report. The report also said bakers have agreed to resolve complaints about the varying sizes of pandesal by agreeing to standardize the sizes, which is 25-35 grams for standard pandesal, 36-45 grams for large pandesal, and 46 grams and above for jumbo sizes. Umali however admitted that they have no powers to compel small bakers to heed their calls, but said they are appealing to them to do it for the consumers’ sake. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
