MANILA, Philippine – At least six suspects are holding hostage a member of the National Police's Aviation Security Group inside an apartelle in Taguig City, a radio report said Wednesday afternoon.
Radio dzBB’s Lito Laparan identified the victim as PO2 Jamaron Sandag, a Medal of Valor awardee. As of posting time, he is still inside the Taguig Plaza Apartelle on Sampaguita Street in Western Bicutan, Taguig.
A separate radio report said the hostage-taking started Wednesday morning but authorities learned about it only later in the day after the victim’s nephew, who was also held hostage, escaped.
Interviewed on dzBB, Niña Sandag, the victim’s wife, said envy could be the motive behind the hostage-taking. She identified one of the suspects as a certain Jamar Jamihim.
Nina said Jamihim allegedly ambushed them two years ago after her husband was given the Medal of Valor award.
Quoting Nina, the report said the "heavily armed" suspects were dismissed policemen who once had a run-in with the victim.
Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) force have already cordoned off the area, the radio report said. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
