Hog depopulation in Pandi won’t bump up pork prices - BAI

MANILA, Philippines — Pork prices will not be affected by the culling of 6,000 hogs in Pandi, Bulacan, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) assured consumers on Saturday. Industry (BAI) director Davinio Catbagan said in an interview on dzRH radio that the “loss" of the hogs will not be felt, adding prices of pork have been stable in past weeks. Workers are to take one week in depopulating a hog farm in Pandi, where some of the hogs were found to be infected with the Ebola Reston virus. Catbagan said they have been monitoring prices of pork in past weeks and found the prices had been stable. “Nakikita natin stable ang presyo (We have seen the prices are stable so far)," he said. - GMANews.TV
