MANILA, Philippines - Two of the suspects in last week’s hostage-taking and disappearance of a police Medal of Valor awardee in Taguig City had surfaced to deny involvement in the case, City Police chief Camilo Cascolan said Thursday.
Cascolan said P01 Sukarno Adjud and ex-policeman Salid Wahid had been placed under custodial investigation for the alleged hostage-taking and disappearance of P02 Jamaron S. Sandag, 32, a member of the Aviation Security Group tasked to secure the Ninoy Aquino International Airport .
Cascolan said the two had gone to his office to clear their names after being tagged in the two incidents.
Cascolan said Adjud told him he was at the Las Piñas Police during the alleged hostage-taking last February 25 to pay his superiors a courtesy call, while Wahid, formerly of the elite Special Action Force (SAF), had just come to Manila from Zamboanga Del Norte to work for his possible reinstatement.
Sandag was given the Medal of Valor award for helping repel an attack by some 100 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Abu Sayyaf rebels several years ago. He has been missing since Feb. 25 although police have received reports of his sightings both in Metro Manila and in Zamboanga.
