Pagasa warns of 40-degree summer heat

MANILA, Philippines - The scorching heat this summer may reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday. Pagasa head Prisco Nilo advised the public to avoid the outdoor summer heat, which he said will be at its fiercest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. “Sa Metro Manila inaasahan natin aabot tayo ng 37 to 38 degrees. Sa ibang lugar gaya ng Cagayan Valley maaring aabot ng 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, so mas mainit sa lugar na yan," Nilo said in an interview on dzXL radio. [In Metro Manila, the heat may reach 37 to 38 degrees. But in other areas like Cagayan Valley the temperature could go way up to 39 to 40 degrees, so that is going to be very hot] He said the temperature would usually start creeping up in the morning and peak at about 2 p.m., adding that it will be wise for people to avoid the summer heat especially up to the first half of May. He said that the weather bureau expects summer to last until the first or second week of May. The season started in the last week of February. - GMANews.TV
