WBC lists Pacquiao No. 3 contender at super lightweight division
MANILA, Philippines – The World Boxing Council (WBC) has listed Filipino pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao the No. 3 contender in the super lightweight (140-lb) division in its March ratings. Pacquiao is now campaigning at the 140-lb wars (super lightweight or junior welterweight) after briefly holding the WBC’s lightweight (135-lb) belt he won at the expense of David Diaz last year. The Filipino phenom is gunning for the International Boxing Organization (IBO)’s version of the crown against Ricky Hatton on May 2 and WBC president Jose Sulaiman is said to have declared that a victory here would make Pacquiao the No. 1 contender in the WBC’s side. The WBC super-lightweight crown is currently held by Timothy Bradley. The No. 1 contender in the latest WBC list is Devon Alexander, followed by ex-champ Junior Witter (No.2), Pacquiao (No. 3), Nate Cambell (No. 4) and Hatton (No. 5). Meanwhile, four other Filipino fighters were listed inside the Top 10 of their respective divisions. Lightflyweight campaigners Juanito Rubillar and Sonny Boy Jaro are ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the 108-lb category while OPBF superbantam holder Rolly Lunas is No. 3 at 122-lb. Strawweight Milan Melindo is No. 7 in the 105-lb division. -GMANews.TV
