Palace still waiting for P11.3B poll budget

MANILA, Philippines — After signing into law the P1.415-trillion national budget for 2009, Malacañang is waiting for Congress to formally transmit to it the P11.3-billion supplemental budget for automated polls. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said Saturday President Arroyo will sign the supplemental budget into law once it is transmitted to the Palace. “It is still being printed. But that is one bill that will immediately be signed by the President as soon as it is transmitted to Malacañang," he said on government-run dzRB radio. He gave no particular date on when the supplemental budget will be signed. Both houses of Congress passed the supplemental budget bill before going on a one-month recess. The Commission on Elections needs the amount to implement automated polls in 2010. Earlier this week, Mrs. Arroyo signed into law the P1.415-trillion national budget. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita announced it Friday. - GMANews.TV
