Senate to pass CARP extension bill - Pangilinan

MANILA, Philippines - The Senate on Monday assured the immediate passage of the bill extending the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program for another five years. Emerging from the meeting with bishops, non-government organizations and farmer groups, Senator Francis Pangilinan said the dialogue was still ongoing but the Senate assured that it will pass Senate Bill 2666. Pangilinan said the bill includes a P147 billion allocation for the 5-year extension of CARP or about P30 billion a year. "We are also pushing for the correct implementation of CARP. We want reform on policies to speed up the implementation and an oversight to monitor it," he said. "We don't want that after 5 years, they will be asking for another extension," he added. - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
