MANILA, Philippines - An Air Force captain has been in detention since late last year inside the Air Force headquarters in Villamor Air Base for allegedly appearing in a subversive video denouncing the Arroyo administration.
Air Force spokesman Maj. Gen. Gerardo Zamudio said that in the video, Capt. Jonnel Pogoy urged the public to join moves to oust President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo whom he reportedly accused of tolerating the allegedly rampant corruption within the military and police organizations.
Zamudio said the video was uploaded to the popular video-sharing Internet website YouTube.com but was eventually removed.
“It’s too destabilizing," Zamudio said of the video.
Pogoy - a member of the Philippine Military Academy class 1999 and was last assigned with the 220th Airlift Wing in Mactan, Cebu - is being investigated for conduct unbecoming of an officer and gentleman and for bringing discredit to the military service. He is currently confined at the Air Force Custodial Center.
Zamudio said Pogoy is facing pre-trial investigation for violation of the Articles of War proceedings before the Air Force Efficiency and Separation Board.
“Captain Pogoy authored a video containing his perception on the graft and corruption in government in the military, and even in the Philippine National Police. He was investigated also because he exhorted the viewers to join moves to oust President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo," Zamudio said.
He said Pogoy was ordered detained and investigated during the time of Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Pedrito Cadungog sometime in October or November last year. Cadungog retired from the service last February upon reaching the retirement age of 56.
Zamudio said Pogoy admitted making the video but denied posting it on YouTube.
“He admitted authoring the video but he was not the one who posted the video material at the YouTube. He said the one [who] posted it is Marichu Claro, his girlfriend," he said.
Pogoy reportedly made the video as a thesis presentation for squadron officers, Zamudio said. - GMANews.TV
