Lewis 3-0 as ROS import, Painters beat Purefoods in PBA road tour

MANILA, Philippines – Jai Lewis remained unbeaten in his Rain or Shine stint as the Elasto Painters grounded the Purefoods Giants, 110-90, in a Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup road game Saturday at the Victorias Sports & Amusement Center Victorias City, Negros Occidental. Lewis had another monster game of 26 points and 20 rebounds to power the Elasto Painters to their third straight win and 4-1 overall for second place in the standings. Despite parading a new import in Jahmar Thorpe, the Giants failed to stop the bleeding as they tumbled to their third straight loss in five games. “We dictated the tempo of the game early. We kept on running since they have a new import," said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia. Gabe Norwood, Lewis’ teammate at George Mason University, led the Rain or Shine locals with 16 points. Rob Wainwright added 13 while Sol Mercado had 12, including a lay up early in the first period when the Elasto Painters went on a big 17-0 tear to take a 22-6 lead. Norwood’s jumper gave Rain or Shine its biggest lead, at 78-58. The Giants tried to make a fight out of it, initiating a 14-3 run on Peter June Simon’s six straight points to close in at 72-81 entering the final quarter. But that was the closest Purefoods could get as Norwood and Mercado took over and pushed the Elasto Painters’ lead back to 99-78 in the final 5:21. Simon led the Giants with 23 markers while Thorpe debuted for 21, 12 of which came in the fourth quarter when the final score the only thing left to be settled. – GMANews.TV
