RP martial artists beg for PSC support for Asian meet


MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine delegation to the 1st Asian Martial Arts Games hopes to get a favorable decision from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) regarding financial assistance for the participation in the meet. Chef de mission Dave Carter said that the delegation will meet with PSC chairman Harry Angping on Tuesday with their request for funding expected to be on the table. “We are scheduled to meet with the PSC along with the presidents and secretary-generals of the national sports associations (NSAs) participating in the Asian Martial Arts Games," said Carter, also the Philippine Amateur Judo Association (PAJA) president. Forty-three Filipino athletes in eight sports - judo, taekwondo, wushu, pencak silat, muay, jujitsu, kurash and kickboxing - will compete in the inaugural Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok slated April 25-May 6. According to their initial budget proposal, Carter said that they would need P48,000 per athlete for the campaign. -GMANews.TV
