LTFRB sets April 15 for hearing of P1-fare-cut petition

MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will hear on April 15 the petition that seeks to further slash minimum jeepney and bus fares by P1. LTFRB chairman Alberto Suansing said the petition filed by the National Council for Commuter Protection (NCCP) would be heard at 10 a.m. at the agency's main office in Quezon City. The petition, filed on Monday, March 23, seeks to bring down minimum jeepney fare to P6 and minimum regular bus fare to P8 in Metro Manila and central and southern Luzon. NCCP president Elvira Medina and the group’s legal counsel and chairman Vic Millora were requested to attend the hearing. Local oil firms Shell, Chevron (formerly Caltex) and Total Philippines all hiked their diesel prices by 50 centavos per liter last week. Total went further and hiked its diesel prices by 30 centavos per liter early Tuesday. It also raised its kerosene prices by 50 centavos per liter and gasoline prices by P1 per liter. Despite the recent price increases, Medina said she remained confident her group’s petition would be approved by the government. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
