PRISAA to have boxing as demo sport


MANILA, Philippines – Amateur boxing will be included in this year’s Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games, which kicks off on April 19 at Naga City, in Camarines Sur. Amateur boxing as a demo sport will serve as the highlight of this year’s National Games slated from April 19 to 26. It was included based on the sport’s popularity in the country thanks to boxers like Manny Pacquiao, Bernabe Concepcion, Donnie Nietes, Nonito Donaire Jr. and Brian Villoria. PRISAA’s regular events include basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, softball, badminton, sepak takraw, lawn tennis, table tennis, chess, athletics, taekwondo, karatedo, dance sports and swimming. Over 400,000 athletes from 360 private colleges and universities from 17 regions in the country are expected to participate this year. No less than President Gloria Arroyo and Smart-PLDT chairman Manny V. Pangilinan are expected to grace the opening ceremonies at the Metro Naga Sports Complex on April 20. The PRISAA Nationals is a culmination of a series of sports competitions among private tertiary educational institutions starting at the provincial and regional levels. – GMANews.TV
