All-Davao final for Nokia NBTC Mindanao crown

MANILA, Philippines — Davao champion Megavia and Energen pounced on their separate opponents to forge an all-Davao finale for the Nokia National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) D-League Mindanao crown Saturday at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City. Benjamin Zosa fired 17 points while Reden Celda had 14 as Megavia bested Oro Grande, 85-64, in this tournament under the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP). Their finals rival, Energen, edged Misamis Oriental Baby Meteors, 97-92, with Emmanuel Bonleon leading the scoring with 14 points. The one-game final is set Sunday night. The winner of the Mindanao final will join Luzon qualifier Laguna and NCR entry Smart-Manila in the national finals set May 7-9 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. “It’s everybody’s ballgame,"said Energen coach Edy Cunanan “Although they (Megavia) were the champion in Davao, it was close game. Both lineups are balanced now so I think it will be a great game." On March 30 to April 1, Cebu champion Daisy Condensada, B-MEG Experts Cebu, Santos Petroleum of Iloilo and Dumaguete Suy of Bacolod City battle for the Visayas crown at the USC North gym in Cebu City.
