Pagasa: SLPA moving toward Iloilo

MANILA, Philippines - Scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in parts of the country as a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) moved toward Iloilo province in Western Visayas Tuesday morning. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) downplayed the chances of the SLPA eventually intensifying into a cyclone. "Hindi masyadong maganda ang kanyang sirkulasyon at maliit ang chance na maging tropical cyclone [The circulation in the SLPA is not good and it does not have much of a chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone]," Pagasa forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. As of 2 a.m. Tuesday, the SLPA was estimated at 110 km northeast of Iloilo City. Because of this, Pagasa said central and southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern and eastern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough, Pagasa said. Elsewhere winds will be light to moderate blowing from the east and northeast with slight to moderate seas, it added. - GMANews.TV
