Man takes fast-food employee hostage in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines – A still unidentified man has taken hostage a female employee inside a fast-food establishment in Biñan town in Laguna province, police said Thursday morning. In an interview on dzBB radio, Laguna provincial police head Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador said that about 6:30 a.m., the man first took a security guard’s .38-caliber revolver. Labador said the man then fired the gun four times and the guard was hit on his side and on his foot. "Dinala na sa ospital pero wala naman sa kritikal na kondisyon [He (security guard) was rushed to the hospital but he was not in critical condition]." Subsequently, Labador said the man barged inside the fast-food establishment and took the female employee. "Matapos niya mambaril, pumasok sa loob. Nang-hostage ng isang empleyada. Hanggang ngayon nandoon pa. Andoon din yung mga pulis natin [After firing the gun, he went inside the fast-food establishment and hostaged the female employee. The hostage taking is ongoing. The police are already there]," he said. Labador noted that the gun is still loaded with two bullets. "Apat na bala na yung naputok niya, may dalawa pa doon sa baril [He was able to fire four bullets, so two more are remaining]." He added that authorities are still negotiating with the man. The motive for the hostage-taking is yet to be determined, Labador said. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
