Pacquiao-Marquez III possible, says 'Pacman' trainer Roach

MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez may yet get his longtime wish – another go at nemesis Manny Pacquiao – afterall. Trainer Freddie Roach revealed that Marquez, the Mexican fighter who has fought his ward Pacquiao in two close contests, could be up next for the Filipino superstar after Ricky Hatton. But that is, if plans to pit Pacquiao with the coming-out-of-retirement Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would not materialize. Mayweather, Jr. is rumored to be getting back to the ring to challenge his successor at the P4P throne, Pacquiao. “If the negotiation with Floyd doesn’t work out I’m sure it’s Marquez. Where else do we have to go?" Roach said, as quoted by fighthype.com. Marquez had previously challenged Pacquiao to a third meeting after two hard-fought matches. In the first, Marquez escaped with a controversial draw despite getting knocked down thrice and in the second, Pacquiao eked out a split decision en route to the World Boxing Council super featherweight title. Marquez has since called out Pacquiao but the Filipino icon had gone on to move up in weight, beating David Diaz at lightweight and Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight, and is set to duke it out with Hatton at light welter on May 2 in Las Vegas. “Dinamita" himself jumped up, knocking out Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz at lightweight but took another tack at luring Pacquiao by seeking a fight with “retired" Mayweather instead. Pacquiao had hinted of plans to hang up his gloves in the next two years and according to Roach, they are considering three fighters for the Pac Man’s farewell gigs. “I think there’s only two guys out there; maybe three. Floyd, Shane Mosley possibly, the weight’s a little bit of an issue there, and then Marquez. I don’t think we have a lot of options because nobody wants to see Manny fight a small fight," Roach said. But before thinking of a Pacquiao-Marquez or Pacquio-Mayweather date, the fighter from General Santos City first has to hurdle the “Hitman" from Manchester. – GMANews.TV
