Central Mindanao cops on heightened alert

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Central Mindanao (Region 12) has placed its 4,000-strong police personnel on heightened alert status following last Saturday’s explosion at Koronadal City. Five people were wounded when a bomb went off inside a Husky Bus (LWE-710, body number 388) that was entering the public terminal. Chief Superintendent Fidel Cimatu, head of the PNP-12, has ordered all provincial commanders to strengthen the defense system in their respective jurisdictions to thwart any possible attacks by lawless elements and terrorist groups. Cimatu has also instructed all units in Region 12 to secure public transport and other vital installations by doing regular patrol operations to ensure safety of the constituents during Holy Week. The PNP-12 chief ordered all chief of police to intensify intelligence monitoring and close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) counterparts in their places. All provincial and city directors, including the group directors of the Regional Mobile Group 12 and the Police Provincial Mobile Groups, were likewise ordered to conduct checkpoints and inspect passenger buses traversing the highways. Cimatu said his men would remain vigilant against possible plans of lawless elements to take advantage of the Holy Week to wreck havoc in the region. - Williamor Magbanua, GMANews.TV
