MANILA, Philippines - The remains of Press Undersecretary Jose Capadocia, one of the eight people who died on board the ill-fated presidential chopper, have been transferred to Arlington Memorial Chapel along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City from Malacañang.
A GMA Flash report said Capadocia's remains arrived pass 10 a.m. Friday. The report added that Capadocia's relatives and friends flocked to the area to pay their last respects to him..
Interment services for Capadocia would be held at the Loyola Memorial Chapel in Marikina City Wednesday, the report added.
Capadocia was with seven others when tragedy befell them: Presidential Management Staff Undersecretary Marilou Frostrom, Brig. Gen. Carlos Clet, PMS assistant director Perlita Bandayanon, pilot Major Rolando Sacatani, co-pilot Captain Alvin Alegata, Clet's aide Quarter Master 3rd Class Demy Reyno, and crewman Sergeant Roe Gem Perez.
The team was President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s advance party to Banaue in Ifugao, where she was supposed to visit Wednesday.
Capadocia's daughter, Rita Capalag, said that their family has learned to accept her father's death. She added that although her father's death was tragic, they are sure that he died happily.
Meanwhile, Capadocia's sister, Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Celia Yangco said the departure of her older brother came to them as a surprise.
However painful, Yangco said she would forever treasure the wonderful memories that she and her brother shared. This includes the last text message that her brother sent her, which she described as meaningful.
On Thursday evening, the President conferred to the victims a Presidential Medal of Merit to formally recognize their dedication “to serve the Presidency and the Republic far beyond the call of duty."
